Upcoming Events For The St. John's Bargain Hunter
So how’s “Buy Nothing New” month going? It’s not too late to jump on the bandwagon, especially with so many opportunities around St. John’s to score clothing, housewares, books and gifts for free…or at least pretty close to free. Here’s a small sampling of what’s on the go over the next couple of weeks:
Autumn Community Clothing Swap at Moksha Yoga, 223 Duckworth Street
Saturday, October 13, 10:00am to 2:00pm
Moksha Yoga puts off a clothing swap every few months, and it’s always a great opportunity to grab a few new duds. My outfit for my work Christmas party last year actually came from a Moksha clothing swap, so you never know what you’ll find.
Here’s the deal: you can a bring a maximum (no minimum!) of 10 pieces of clean, gently worn clothing, accessories and footwear. It’s not just women's clothing either guys, you’re more than welcome to clear out some closet space too. The best part is that there’s no limit on the amount of clothing you take!
Free admission; everyone welcome, even if you’re not a member of the studio.
Fall Kirk Garage Sale, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 76 Queens Road
Saturday, October 13, 10:00 am to 12:30pm
Who doesn’t love a bit of haggling at a good ‘ole flea market? Expect to find bargains galore on clothes, holiday decorations, books, toys, jewelry, linens, electronics, housewares, oddities, etc.
Donations gladly welcome and can be dropped off at the church hall in the week leading up to the sale 9am-2pm Monday to Friday.
Fall Book Sale, AC Hunter Children's Library, 125 Allandale Road
Saturday, October 27, 9:30am to 4:30pm
The sale is taking place in the Community Room, located in the Children’s Library on the bottom floor of the AC Hunter Public Library. The books on sale will cover all genres, including historical fiction, sci-fi, cookbooks, non-fiction, and the ever-popular local offerings. Most books are priced from $1-$3! All funds raised go towards supporting library programming. *This is a cash only sale*
Winter Gear Swap, The Outfitters, 220 Water Street
Date TBD (usually around mid-November)
Keep an eye on The Outfitters social media, because their annual Gear Swap is an event not to be missed. It’s an outdoorsy bargain hunter’s equivalent of Black Friday, with deals galore on everything from gently used athletic clothing and camping equipment to big ticket items like skis and kayaks.
Here’ how it works: in the week leading up to Gear Swap, simply bring your gently used outdoor gear/apparel to The Outfitters and fill out a Gear Swap form. Your stuff will be itemized and priced, with a small percentage of the sale price going to support the Avalon Nordic Ski Club and the East Coast Trail.
You don’t need to have items in the Gear Swap to stop by and score some deals! Take note of the starting time though, because there’s always a line-up waiting to get in!
HAPPY BARGAIN HUNTING!
