Get Schooled: New Podcast for Grad Students is a Higher Ed How-To

The Get Schooled Podcast is a CHMR FM radio show and podcast for grad students to learn everything you don’t learn in your classes. Every two weeks, I’ll interview professors and professionals about skills and resources for graduate students. Plus, I’m also talking with other grad students about cool research, from the culture of cannabis to the science behind the best chocolate chip cookies.

As a grad student, I try to focus on the questions I’ve struggled to answer on my own. One question that keeps cropping up: Am I doing this right?

Graduate school is tough. Between courses, funding proposals, jobs, and trying to get to the gym once and awhile, sometimes it seems impossible to juggle it all. I don’t have all the answers, but luckily, we have some amazing academics and professionals at Memorial who can help us make it through. I’m really excited to share these interviews because they address a lot of things that I’ve struggled with as a student, like making sure I have a plan, mental health resources, and how to go to a conference. None of this is information I knew before graduate school, and when I started, I felt like I was already behind. Did everyone else know how to choose a committee, or what the student union does?

The second half of every episode features an interview with a graduate student. Grad students at MUN are doing interesting original research, but we don’t often get a chance to share what we’re working on with a wider audience. I hope the podcast gives students a platform to talk about their research, and gives listeners a peek into their awesome projects.

If you’re a student that is excited about your research and want to join me on an episode, or you’d like to have your original music featured on an episode, send me an email at getschooledpodcast@gmail.com.

You can listen to the Get Schooled Podcast on 93.5 CHMR FM every other Thursday at 1 p.m., or online here. And don’t forget to follow us on Instagram at @getschooled_podcast.
